Rajeev Chandrasekhar has claimed that the viral “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP) social media campaign is a cross-border “influence operation” aimed at destabilising India and targeting the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on X on Saturday, Chandrasekhar described the digital campaign as a dangerous, weaponised narrative allegedly engineered by foreign interests. He termed the “#CockroachParty” campaign a “classic cross-border influence operation” purportedly aided by sections of the Opposition.

“The #CockroachParty gambit is yet another classic cross-border ‘influence operation’ targeting India and PM @narendramodi govt — designed by vested interests to destabilise India — helped along by elements in our ‘opposition’,” Chandrasekhar said in the post.

He further described the trend as a coordinated attempt by external forces unhappy with India’s rise and modernisation under the Modi government.

“I have always maintained that India’s rise and its modernisation under PM Narendra Modi will be resented by many countries, and there will be many hurdles created for our continued rise,” he said.

Referring to global developments such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, tensions involving the US and Iran, energy shocks and what he termed “Chinese aggression”, Chandrasekhar said the Modi government had kept India “protected, safe and resilient” while maintaining economic growth.

“That is the mettle of true leadership, and our united response to the challenges facing the country and the world is the right thing to do today,” he added.

The BJP leader also warned that artificial intelligence, social media bots and coordinated digital manipulation were increasingly being used to manufacture fake yet seemingly organic narratives online.

“In the age of social media, bots, AI and its weaponisation, influence operations are dangerous, effective ways to destabilise by building fake, seemingly organic narratives,” he said.

Taking a swipe at critics of the BJP and Prime Minister Modi, Chandrasekhar added: “No cockroach, no petty Indian opposition politician, no Modi-hating joker, no foreign vested interest can derail our collective resolve to build a better future for all Indians #ViksitBharat.”

The X account of “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP), which surfaced last week and quickly gained traction online, was officially withheld in India on Thursday. Soon after, a backup account titled “Cockroach is Back”, carrying the tagline “Cockroaches Don’t Die”, appeared on the platform.
